Welcome to C. F. Vigor Library Media Center

The Mission of C.F. Vigor High School Library Media Center is to provide a program that will ensure all students and faculty will have access to the most advanced technology and printed materials available. The mission also is to provide leadership and expertise in assisting patrons in finding and using information effectively.

 

ACCESSIBILITY

The Library Media Center hours of operation at Vigor are flexible.  The regular hours are from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on school days for both teachers and students.  The Media Specialist extends hours of operation when necessary because the majority of Vigor students do not have home computers or other research resources.

COMPUTER LAB

We have one computer lab in the Media Center.  Teachers schedule research times for their students to use the computer lab.  Teachers bring classes in for 30 minutes a session.  During this time students use technology to complete   assignments.

READING ROOM   

Teachers can schedule time to bring students in for printed research to complete assignments.  Teachers also may schedule time to bring classes in to check books in and out.  Students may come to the Media Center on an individual basis with a pass, during their lunch break, or after school to complete assignments and check books in and out.

Library Media Center

  

The mission of C. F. Vigor High School Library Media Center is to provide a program that will ensure all students and faculty will have access to the most advanced technology and printed materials available.  The mission also is to provide leadership and expertise in assisting patrons in finding and using information effectively.     

 

  

 

 

Accessibility

    

The Library Media Center hours of operation at Vigor are flexible. The regular hours are 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The Media Specialist extends hours of operation when necessary because the majority of Vigor students do not have home computers or other research resources. The hours of operation are also extended for faculty use. The faculty has access to a copy machine, a laminator, and computers.

 

There is a computer lab available for the faculty to bring classes in for 30 minute  sessions. During this time students search the internet for research materials on different subjects, as well as the Alabama Virtual Library program, the Renaissance Learning program which includes STAR Reading, STAR Math and Accelerated Reader, PassKey and Microsoft Word, etc. The computer lab is also used for after school tutorial programs.

Vigor High School Library

 

Rules and Regulations

 

 

 

A student must have a pass to enter and leave the media center.

 

 

 

Each student must have a Vigor ID in order to check out materials from the library.

 

 

 

Student must show an ID indicating they understand the rules and regulations of using the internet at school.  

 

 

 

Students are not to change, delete, or download anything to the computers.

 

 

 

Students are asked not to bring large book bags and purses in. If you need to bring your book bag, please leave it at the front of the Library.

 

 

 

NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE LIBRARY.

 

 

 

Please help us keep all materials clean and in order.

 

 

 

Please return all books and other materials promptly.

 

Books may be returned by placing them in the book drop outside the library entrance or at the circulation desk.  

 

 

 

Fines for overdue books are $0.10 per day until the book is returned.

 

 

 

References books may be checked out overnight. Fines for overdue reference books are $0.30 per day.

 

 

 

With special permission, magazines may be checked out overnight.

Faculty and Student Involvement

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Faculty and student recommendations and suggestions for materials for the Library Media Center are strongly encouraged and considered by the Media Specialist. Catalogs, flyers, letters, or announcements of newly published books and media are displayed or routed to faculty on a weekly or monthly basis.

 

 

 

Faculty and students use the Library Media Center daily. A calendar for Faculty to schedule classes in the Reading Room (for research in printed sources) is located at the Circulation Desk. Computers are also available in this area for research and Microsoft Word.

 

 

 

A calendar for scheduling classes by the teachers for the Computer Labs are available on the counter of the circulation desk.

 

 

 

A notebook containing Collaborative Forms is located at the Circulation Desk. All faculty members are requested to complete a form and give to the Media Specialist before bringing class to the Library Media Center or Computer Labs.

 

 

 

Media Specialist consults with Faculty on units being taught in order to plan and prepare resources needed for student library assignment.

Budgeting Decisions

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Media Specialist obtains the proposed total amount of units allotted for Library Enhancement from the Principal. The Media Specialist develops a Budget proposal to submit to committees. Budgeted items are based on need and Faculty and student recommendations as submitted by the Library Advisory Committee.

 

 

 

The Media Specialist compiles the Library Media Center proposed budget and presents it to all in Faculty meeting. Faculty vote on budget proposal after recommended purchases are discussed in the meeting. Contract Regulating the Safe and Acceptable Use of the Internet

 

 

 

The Online Registration form contains a statement the Parent/Guardian/Student answers Yes or No to the contract concerning regulating the safe and acceptable use of the Internet.

 

 

 

A notation is placed on the student’s ID card indicating he/she is allowed to access the internet in school.

Alabama Virtual Library

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Signs are visibly placed in the Library Media Center promoting the Alabama Virtual Library.

 

 

 

Students are encouraged to use the Alabama Virtual Library at school and at home.

The Vigor Library Media Center follows the guidelines of the U.S. Code Title 17. Schools have some “fair use” or limited exemptions to copyright requirements. The exemptions are for materials intended for educational purposes.

Carol Simpson’s 3rd ed. “Copyright for Schools” is located at the Circulation Desk for distribution.

 

 

 

Warning notices concerning Copyright restrictions are posted on copiers located in the Library Media Center.
